Why TPO is the #1 Choice for Commercial Flat Roofs

TPO has become the dominant commercial flat roofing system for good reasons — here's what makes it the right choice for most Northeast Ohio commercial buildings.

ENERGY
Highly Reflective Surface

TPO's white reflective surface bounces solar radiation away from your building, reducing cooling loads and energy costs — especially valuable for large commercial footprints in Ohio summers.

DURABILITY
Welded Seams — No Weak Points

TPO seams are heat-welded, creating a bond that's actually stronger than the membrane itself. Unlike adhesive-bonded systems, welded seams don't peel, separate, or fail over time.

CHEMISTRY
Chemical & Puncture Resistance

TPO resists oils, grease, and chemical exposure — making it ideal for restaurants, manufacturing facilities, and buildings with rooftop HVAC equipment.

COST
Best Value in Flat Roofing

TPO delivers premium performance at a lower cost than many alternatives. For most commercial buildings, it offers the best combination of upfront cost, longevity, and energy savings.

INSTALL
Multiple Attachment Methods

TPO can be mechanically fastened, fully adhered, or ballasted — allowing us to choose the right installation method for your building's structure, use, and local wind requirements.

REPAIR
Easy to Repair & Maintain

TPO repairs are clean and effective — damaged areas can be patched with heat-welded TPO patches that are effectively seamless. Maintenance is straightforward and inexpensive.

How We Install TPO Roofing

  • Existing roof assessment — determine tear-off or recover
  • Deck inspection — identify and repair any damaged areas
  • Insulation board — improve R-value and create flat surface
  • TPO membrane installation — mechanically fastened or fully adhered
  • Heat-welded seams — all seams welded to manufacturer specs
  • Flashings and edge details — properly terminated at all penetrations and perimeters
  • Final inspection and documentation

Common Questions

Honest answers from the Atlas team.

How long does TPO roofing last?+
A properly installed TPO roof typically lasts 15–25 years depending on the membrane thickness (45, 60, or 80 mil), installation quality, and maintenance. 60-mil TPO is our standard recommendation for most commercial applications in Northeast Ohio — it provides the best balance of cost and longevity.
Can TPO be installed over my existing flat roof?+
In some cases yes — a TPO recover over an existing EPDM or modified bitumen roof can be cost-effective if the existing membrane and insulation are in sound condition. We assess your existing roof and recommend the right approach.
What thickness TPO do you recommend?+
We recommend 60-mil TPO for most commercial applications. 45-mil is the minimum but provides less protection against punctures and weathering. 80-mil is available for high-traffic roofs or situations requiring maximum durability.
